The Beginning, Part 2

Hello again, and welcome to Shamrock Wood Studio. I am Michael Mckee, and this is the area of my website where I will chronicle my adventures in the studio on a weekly basis.

Why Part 2? Well, I started this website with an initial post a little over five years ago with the idea that I would detail my experiences learning woodworking from my perspective as a serious hobbyist. I realized at that point that I loved working with my hands and that by doing so, I was tapping into an energy that had always been there but never fully explored. I’ve built and learned a great deal along the way. I also developed an idea of my future goals as a woodworker and a portfolio of completed projects. However, last year I realized that for me to fully make the transition to woodworking as a career, I was going to need to learn the craft in a formal way. Since then, I’ve been preparing to take the leap. I applied to the Cabinetry and Furniture Making Program at North Bennet Street School in Boston and I’m pleased to announce that I have been accepted! My adventure begins Sept. 8th, 2015.

So, what can you expect to read here over the next couple of years? Naturally, a weekly summary and a new perspective on the program at North Bennet Street. My views and opinions of the techniques I learn and the tools I use in the program, as well as the challenges involved with learning the craft of woodworking. Also expect a little peppering of Boston life. (It’s gonna get cold here, right?) A few other things are bound to pop up too, so stay tuned and thanks for reading along! Up next: What to do with a summer off…
